The events of the mist born series take place on the world of Scadrial. It was created when two shards ruin and preservation decided to work together to create a planet. Scadrial is a dark and gloomy world where ash rains from the sky. It was created by Ruin and Preservation and is currently being ruled by the shard Harmony also known by the name of its vessel Sazed. It was the first world that we saw that had to deal with a threat from another world. In Era two Scadrial had to defeat the schemes of the Shard Autonomy. There are three different magic systems on Scadrial that can work together. They are Alomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy.
Alomancy is the power given by Preservation, and it allows a person to ingest metals and then consume the energy to power a specific power. Which power is activated is determined by the type of metal ingested. There are 16 different allomantic metals and they each produce a different effect. A person who can use Alomancy falls into two different categories, they are either a Mistborn or a Misting. A Mistborn has access to all 16 metal related powers, but a Misting only gets access to One.
Feruchemy is not associated to any specific Shard, but it gives a person the power to store your own attributes in metals called metal mines. For example, by choosing to store your mass into an iron metal mine you can be really light for a period of time and then using that power you can be extremely heavy for a short period of time. Each of the 16 metals stores a different attribute of your body. A person who can use Feruchemy falls into two categories, they are either a Keeper or a Ferring. A keeper is able to store their attributes in any of the 16 metals either individually or all at the same time. A Ferring can only store attributes in one of the 16 metals.
Hemalurgy is the power given by Ruin and it allows a person to steal the abilities of a Allomancer or Feruchemist. However, it is very gruesome because it requires you to kill the person you are taking the ability first with a spike. This power was commonly used by evil organizations like the Lord Ruler and The Set to create powerful abominations such as the inquisitors. This is a power system that has the most cross world applications because it can be used to take powers from people of other worlds.
The biggest crossover importance of Scadrial is the order called the ghost bloods. This is an order that was founded by Kleiser after he was killed in the first book of era one. They have ages on almost every world in the cosmere that work towards their own agendas. On scadrial they are a force for good, however on other worlds they have been known to use devious methods to achieve their ends. For example, in the world of stormlight archives they are one of the antagonists./p>
